Christian Works Committee Night 2025

May 5th, 2025

About the Program

We will hear from two of the 2025 Christan Work grant recipients.

Boy with a Ball

Boy with a Ball is a faith based, yout and community development organization whose mission is to launch youth as changemakers who ignite city-wide movements to transform hurting neighborhoods. To achieve this goal, Boy with a Ball has discovered and developed Love Your City, a proven , asset-based model of community development that's being implemented in cities around the world. Boy with a Ball is honored to have the opportunity to approach Boston Baptist Social Union to continue partnering with us in this mission, specifically through a financial contribution which will be used to help scale Love Your City across the Mildred C. Hailey Apartments in Boston's Jackson Square neighborhood and deepen its impact there through the launch of targeted mentoring/discipleship relationships and small groups.

The Outdoor Church

The year 2024 was another challenging period for The Outdoor Church in its ministry on the strret and in the shelters of Cambridge. With the support of the Boston Baptist Social Union, we continued our presence, providing hospitality and care to our community. We held our weekly services and offered food, snacks, and water to our community multiple times per week. We are thankful to God for providing us with strength and perseverance and to the Boston Baptist Social Union for providing the means to minister to our community.

The requested grant will continue strengthing our capaciity to serve our Church community. We provide three meals weekly on Sunday mornings, Sunday afternoons, and Saturday afternoons. We conduct these food outreach ministries in [Cambridge] Porter Square, Harvard Square, and Central Square. We also provide water and snacks on Thursday afternoons. By combining the help of our local church communities with targeted purchases of sandwiches and snacks, we believe that the needs of our community will be met. We are grateful for the continued support of the local churches and volunteers.
